Two parents have died from heart attack following the abduction of students and staff from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri village, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to report, the tragic deaths were confirmed Tuesday by Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, Bishop of Kontagora Diocese and chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State. The bishop oversees the affected school.
According to his media aide, Daniel Atori, one parent, Anthony Musa, died from a heart attack shortly after armed assailants stormed the school and kidnapped dozens of students.
A second parent, a woman whose identity the church is still working to confirm with family members, has also passed away.
“The man, Anthony Musa, died of a heart attack, but we still don’t have full details about the female parent because we couldn’t reach her family,” Bishop Yohanna said.
Rescue efforts for the abducted students and staff continue as the Papiri community struggles to cope with the emotional devastation left by the attack.
The incident has cast a spotlight on the escalating security crisis in Niger State, where kidnappings targeting schools and vulnerable communities have become increasingly common.
