Paystack has fired its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, after public accusations emerged that he had a sexual relationship with a junior employee.
Olubi confirmed his dismissal in a blog post on Saturday, November 23, 2025, saying he was let go before Paystack finished investigating the allegations.
The scandal broke in mid-November when someone on social media accused Olubi of abusive behavior.
The post quickly gained traction, prompting others to dig up explicit tweets he’d posted years earlier.
Paystack responded by suspending Olubi and announcing plans to bring in an independent investigator.
But according to Olubi, things moved faster than expected.
He says the company terminated his contract without giving him a chance to meet with anyone or defend himself, something he believes violated both his suspension terms and company policy.
“My legal team is now reviewing the process that led to my purported termination, including its consistency with internal policies,” Olubi wrote.
“They will take the steps they consider appropriate, and I will not be commenting further on this matter at this time.”
Since the initial allegation, screenshots of Olubi’s old social media posts, some dating back to 2009-2013, have been circulating online.
Many people found the tweets sexually inappropriate and predatory, adding fuel to an already heated debate.
Paystack, acquired by Stripe in 2020 in one of Africa’s biggest tech deals, is now under intense scrutiny.
The incident has sparked renewed conversations about workplace accountability across Africa’s booming tech industry, where several misconduct cases have recently forced companies to take a harder look at their internal cultures and governance.
Paystack hasn’t released a new statement addressing Olubi’s claims, and it’s unclear whether Stripe will weigh in.
