A fresh twist was given to the deepening rift within the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday as the National Working Committee suspended four senior officials believed to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Others are Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary; Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, National Legal Adviser; Umar Bature, National Organising Secretary; and the Deputy National Legal Adviser.
Announcing the decision after a marathon meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said the suspension took immediate effect and would last one month pending a disciplinary review.
“The National Working Committee, after careful deliberation, has resolved to suspend the affected officers for a period of one month and refer them to the Disciplinary Committee for further action,” said Ologunagba, noting that the development was informed by the constitution of the party, adding that the action was aimed at restoring discipline.
Party insiders revealed that the suspended officials had allegedly withdrawn from key party activities in recent months, heightening divisions within the PDP.
This development comes against the increasing tension ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
This is coming barely a day after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the PDP to suspend preparations for the convention until disputes over delegates and leadership were resolved.
In response, Ologunagba insisted that preparations for the convention remained on course, and the party would appeal the ruling. “The PDP respects the judiciary, but we will challenge this ruling at the appellate court,” he said.
