Premier League clubs broke every pre-existing transfer record over the 2025 summer window as the spending topped £3 billion (nearly $4 billion), according to financial experts Deloitte.
The window ended on Monday, September 2, and was wrapped up in dramatic fashion as Liverpool inked Newcastle frontman Alexander Isak for the British record of £125 million as part of a day of high-profile transfers.
Deloitte confirmed that the gross expenditure was over £3 billion for the first time, a whopping £650 million higher than the previous record of £2.4 billion in 2023. It is also the third summer in succession that Premier League sides spent over £2 billion.
English clubs funded 51 percent of the overall transfer spending across Europe’s “big five” divisions the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 once more demonstrating their unrivaled wealth.
Tim Bridge, Sports Business Group lead partner at Deloitte, stated:
A third summer of Premier League record-breaking spending in four years is a clear sign that, though there is subdued expenditure elsewhere across the continent, clubs have no desire to rein in investment in the product on the field.
He added that with more English clubs competing in European competitions than any other division, the Premier League continues to raid the best of the world while establishing itself as the world’s most competitive football league.
