President Bola Tinubu traveled to Bauchi on Saturday evening to personally commiserate with the family and followers of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the revered Islamic leader whose passing last month left an indelible void for millions across Nigeria and beyond.
Touching down at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport shortly after 4:10 p.m., the President was greeted by a gathering of leaders who turned out to honor both his heartfelt gesture and the late Sheikh’s towering legacy. In attendance were Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, along with federal officials including Minister of Health and Social Welfare Prof. Ali Pate and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar. Traditional rulers and prominent local religious leaders also joined the reception a quiet testament to the Sheikh’s cross-community influence that transcended political and regional lines.
Without lingering for formalities, President Tinubu made his way directly to Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s mosque, the spiritual heart of Nigeria’s Tijjaniya Movement, to pay his last respects. The 92-year-old scholar, who died last month, leaves behind a legacy of compassionate, humble leadership that drew followers from every corner of Nigeria and beyond, uniting people through teachings of faith, empathy, and collective progress.
For the late leader’s family and loyal followers, Tinubu’s personal visit was more than a political courtesy: it was a meaningful acknowledgment of the profound impact Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi had on ordinary Nigerians, who turned to him for spiritual guidance, moral clarity, and support through life’s hardest moments.
