Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has called on the Federal Government to revise Nigeria’s work schedule to better accommodate Muslims.
In a video posted on his verified Facebook page, he highlighted that the current system, which designates Sunday as a rest day for Christians, disadvantages Muslims who consider Friday a key day for worship.
Omokri pointed out that before colonial rule, many Muslim communities in Nigeria observed Friday as a rest day.
To address this, he proposed starting work earlier—around 7:30 a.m.—from Monday to Thursday, and closing offices by noon on Fridays.
This adjustment, he argued, would allow Muslims to attend Jumu’ah prayers without impacting productivity or Nigeria’s GDP.
He stated, “We can start work earlier from Monday to Thursday, then close at 12 on Fridays. The time lost on Friday will be recovered during the week, creating a fairer balance for everyone.”
