Rivers Sole Administrator Ibas Says Tinubu’s Mandate ‘Fully Achieved’ After LG Polls

Rivers State single-term leader, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), said the mandate President Bola Tinubu issued to him has been “sufficiently achieved” with the rejuvenation of democratic governance at the grassroots level.

At Port Harcourt’s Government House, during the hosting of the presentation of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) report on the just-concluded local government elections, Ibas asserted that the holding of the peaceful election and swearing-in of elected chairmen and councillors in all 23 LGAs formed the fulfillment of his mandate.

Mr. President entrusted me with unambiguous mandate: stabilize the state, set the institutions back in order, and return Rivers to the fullness of democracy. I believe that with the successful conclusion and swearing-in of the council leaders, we’ve accomplished that,” he declared.

He congratulated RSIEC on conducting what he had previously referred to as a credible, fair, and transparent election, noting that it was free of harassment and intimidation. Ibas assured that the report would be read by the government and a white paper prepared.

Presenting the report, RSIEC chairman Dr. Mike Odey referred to the exercise as a “historic achievement,” noting that it was attained within 30 days, an impressive first in Nigerian election administration.
