Prince Harry is reportedly annoyed that his wife, Meghan Markle, has hired their children to promote her lifestyle brand, As Ever. There is a tug-of-war between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over how much of their kids’ lives to share on social media, writes royal editor Matt Wilkinson. Whereas Harry is said to want to keep their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, out of the limelight, Meghan, having grown up in California, has a more freewheeling approach.
Wilkinson revealed on a recent installment of A Right Royal Podcast that Harry guards their privacy with care, particularly when they venture outside of their Montecito home, fearing the media would rush in to take photos of their children. “He has this idea that if he takes them out of Montecito, that there is a horde of us out there to take pictures of his kids,” Wilkinson said.
On the other hand, Meghan, who has described her desire for a “California-style lifestyle,” supposedly doesn’t want to hide her children away from the public eye. Even though she has not wanted to show their faces, she has used their appearances to promote her own image as a mother and domestic homemaker, which has been a source of concern for Harry. Wilkinson suggested that the Duke of Sussex is likely “not too happy” about this.
Reports indicated that recently Meghan has shared more glimpses of Archie and Lilibet, including within the context of her brand. She shared a Valentine’s Day video with the kids preparing treats, and in March posted a photo of her daughter and Harry on a boat. A few weeks later, she shared a garden photo of the kids as part of an As Ever promo photo. But despite increased visibility of the children on social media, they did not feature in Meghan’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, although Harry made a brief appearance. No representatives for Harry and Meghan commented on the situation when asked.
