The Senate on Thursday confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
His confirmation was conducted through a voice vote by lawmakers following nearly an hour-and-a-half screening session in which Amupitan responded to some questions about his qualification and plans for the electoral body.
President Bola Tinubu had forwarded the nomination of Amupitan to replace Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who had resigned from the position some two weeks earlier.
Amupitan was also at the Senate secretariat alongside governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, and other key officials. Having presented his credentials and responding to senators’ queries, the upper chamber okayed his appointment.
