Senate Spokesperson: No Sexual Harassment Case Against Akpabio Before Senate

Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the spokesperson for the Senate, has stated that the allegations of sexual harassment made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio are not before the Senate.

Speaking on Arise TV’s ‘Morning Show’ on Monday, Adaramodu dismissed the claims, emphasizing that the Senate does not debate issues that have not been formally presented. He clarified that:

  1. No formal complaint has been submitted regarding the allegations.
  2. The Senate will not investigate social media controversies.
  3. The Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions Committee is only handling a case related to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s alleged non-compliance with Senate standing orders.

Adaramodu stated, “The issue of bringing it up in the Senate committee is like asking a court to pick a case from the motor park or the police when nobody has made any complaint to the court.”

He reaffirmed that the only matter before the Senate involves procedural compliance, not any allegations against Akpabio.
