Senator Natasha Akpoti has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for turning down a petition presented to the National Assembly requesting her recall from the Senate.
According to Gistreel, INEC denied the request for recall on the grounds that it contravened the constitutional requirements as stipulated under Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The commission made the announcement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“The petition calling for the recall of the Kogi Central Senatorial District Senator has failed to meet Section 69(a) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Constitution (as amended),” the statement continued.
Senator Natasha Akpoti responded by thanking INEC for what she called their firm position in “standing up for justice and constitutionality” and defying what she called pressure from non-democratic forces.
“God has embarrassed anti-democratic forces plotting my recall from the Senate, among them one of the EFCC most wanted, former governor Yahaya Bello,” she asserted.
Senator Natasha had no hesitation in her lashing out at her political opponents, with a warning that a new political era has begun—one where Nigerians are rejecting corrupt and violent leadership.
Please keep in mind that your time is over in politics since the new time has come when individuals will no longer account for or connect with evil politicians whose mark is nothing but violence, rigging, and corruption,” she continued.
