Claims by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that she had a court order to resume her duties were dismissed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Through his media aide, Kenny Okolugbo, it was stated that Natasha’s return to the National Assembly was a publicity stunt. Neither the Senate leadership nor the Clerk was informed, and no court order had been issued for her reinstatement.
According to Akpabio, “absolutely no formal notification” regarding her return was sent to the Senate leadership or the Clerk of the National Assembly. It was also noted that the judgment of Honourable Justice Binta Nyako did not mandate any specific action from the Senate regarding her suspension, and there was no explicit order for her recall or reinstatement.
A letter from Natasha’s lawyer, Juan Numa, SAN, was acknowledged and replied to by the Clerk of the National Assembly. However, instead of allowing the matter to be settled, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly “chose to escalate the issue through media dramatics,” falsely pretending to have a court-backed mandate to resume.
It was further described that a deliberate act of provocation occurred on July 22, 2025, when Senator Natasha arrived at the National Assembly gates with “street urchins and political hangers-on.” This was not considered a legislative act but rather “pure political theatre,” aimed at inciting public sympathy and portraying the Senate negatively under a false premise.
