Soldiers Injured in Ambush During Mission to Rescue Kebbi Schoolgirls

Nigerian Soldier

Scores of Nigerian soldiers were injured when terrorists ambushed them on a mission to rescue the students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State.

This attack came barely 24 hours after the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered troops of Operation Fasan Yamma to step up operations and go “all out” against the bandits. The army chief had declared that the mission was of utmost urgency, in effect directing the troops to operate day and night until the abducted schoolgirls were found.

“You must continue day and night fighting. We must find these children,” he said, while urging field commanders to act swiftly and decisively based on intelligence.

However, during the rescue operation, terrorists ambushed the troops, injuring several. Video footage obtained by reporters showed wounded soldiers awaiting medical evacuation.

One injured soldier could be heard saying in Hausa that a colleague, Musa, had a bullet lodged in his leg. The military vehicle they were using was also riddled with bullet holes. Nevertheless, the security forces are carrying on with the mission of freeing the schoolgirls and giving medical treatment to the injured troops.
