A rent difference in Oriyangi, Ibadan, Oyo State, became violent on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, as a tenant, Olayeni, was killed during a confrontation with his landlord.
The tenant had invited a friend to resolve the conflict as noted in a statement issued on Sunday via the official X account of the Oyo State Police Command. The intervention escalated into a physical fight as the friend reportedly struck the tenant. Olayeni collapsed on the floor and was subsequently confirmed dead at the hospital despite efforts to save him.
Police authorities confirmed that the landlord and his companion are both arrested and are currently in custody awaiting further investigation.
The Command extended its sympathies to the victim’s family and assured the public that justice will be served.
