Timi Frank Condemns Paul Biya’s Re-election, Calls It a Fraud and Assault on Democracy

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has condemned the declaration of 92-year-old Paul Biya as the winner of the recent presidential election in Cameroon, describing it as a “brazen fraud” and “an insult to democracy.”

In a Tuesday release in Abuja, Frank averred that the results announced by Biya’s regime were a travesty that contradicted the will of the people of Cameroon. He urged the international community to condemn what he termed “a daylight robbery of votes.”

“The so-called results are a clear subversion of the people’s will. The world must not stand by while democracy in Cameroon is strangled in broad daylight,” he said.

Frank decried the violence unleashed on peaceful demonstrators who protested against the outcome, blaming Cameroonian security agencies for killing and arresting innocent people. He demanded that the international community conduct immediate investigations into the killings and asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations (UN) to bring perpetrators to justice.

He also criticised the African Union (AU) for its “shameful silence,” which he said was a betrayal of the organisation’s democratic values and an encouragement of tyranny on the continent.

“It is this silence and hypocrisy that feed coups and instability in Africa. When people are denied peaceful avenues of change, they are driven to desperation,” he said.

Frank called on the United States, the European Union, the United Nations, and other stakeholders in the international community to impose targeted sanctions on Biya’s regime, including travel bans, freezing of assets, and suspension of military assistance.

He declared that the winner of the Cameroonian presidential election was opposition candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary, whose mandate, he said, was the voice of the people.

Frank urged Cameroonians to be firm but peaceful in defending their mandate. “Your courage in the face of tyranny is an inspiration,” he stated. “The world must stand with the people of Cameroon and make it known that stolen elections and blood-soaked power have no place in the 21st century.”
