President Bola Tinubu is hosting the just appointed sole administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (Rtd), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday afternoon.
Former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ibas also showed up at the State House at about 12:50 pm for the meeting, following Tinubu’s announcement of state of emergency in the oil-rich state due to a long-running political and security crisis.
The state of emergency was declared by the President on Tuesday evening, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all the elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months in the first instance.
To reinstate order, Tinubu named Vice Admiral Ibas as the sole administrator, with the responsibility to exercise administration but without authority to initiate new legislation.
The President also promised that the judiciary of the state would be free and continue to function uninterrupted.
