A political solidarity organisation, Tinubu Vanguard for 2027, has raised a reported smear campaign against Prof. Abdullahi Usman, chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
In a statement in Abuja, the group alleged that some people were sponsoring media attacks to discredit NAHCON boss and undermine the preparations of the agency for 2026 Hajj operations.
The group’s president, Bisola Abdulkadir, labeled the move as political, intended to silence the activities of the commission and therefore destabilize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“We have credible information that millions of naira have been spent in a campaign to vilify the NAHCON chairman to tarnish the image of the preparations of the commission. The scheme is not against Prof. Usman but against stoking northern sentiment against the president by forcing him out,” Abdulkadir asserted.
She urged security agencies to investigate the alleged campaign and bring its sponsors to book, as she called on Nigerians to stand strong in order not to allow attempts at defaming dedicated public servants for selfish political purposes.
Abdulkadir noted that what the commission needed was cooperation, not diversion, and reiterated that the Tinubu administration toiled day and night to deliver good governance.
The group also praised President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their sponsorship of NAHCON and readiness to ensure transparent and smooth hajj operations.
