Trump Calls Nigeria “A Disgrace,” Threatens to Cut Aid Over Christian Persecution Claims

Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has launched another scathing attack on Nigeria, accusing the government of failing to protect Christians from extremist violence and threatening to withdraw American financial support.

Speaking on a conservative radio show Friday, Trump didn’t hold back, calling the situation in Nigeria “a disgrace” and claiming Christians are being killed “by the thousands” in what he described as “a genocide.”

“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace,” Trump said. “They’re killing people by the thousands.

It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it. And we pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping.”

Trump doubled down on his previous stance that Nigeria should remain on the U.S. list of “countries of particular concern” for religious freedom violations, a designation his administration had imposed.

He even suggested the possibility of deploying American military forces against Islamist militants in Nigeria if local authorities don’t act.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly pushed back against these accusations, maintaining that the country upholds religious freedom and is actively fighting insecurity that affects all citizens regardless of faith, both Christians and Muslims.
