A dramatic altercation between a student and a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) has gone viral after the student confronted the lecturer for interrupting her video recording. The student, a 300-level History and International Studies major, was dancing and recording a video in the corridor of her department when Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye from the Faculty of Arts tried to pass. He tapped her lightly and said, “Excuse me.”
The video shows the student giving the lecturer a sharp look before exclaiming, “Can you imagine? He just hit me.”
In a second clip, the situation escalates as the student physically grabs the lecturer, while onlookers attempt to separate them. Throughout the scuffle, the lecturer keeps his hands raised, seemingly to show he is not engaging in violence. A statement allegedly from Dr. Okoye, which has been circulating in Unizik’s WhatsApp groups, provides his version of events.
He claims that after passing by the student, he overheard her insulting him and returned to confirm if she was one of his students. When he reportedly reached for her phone, the student reacted aggressively, allegedly biting him on both arms. The student involved is also said to be the daughter of a female lecturer in the university’s Engineering department.
