Urhobo College, Uvwie, has been handed a chance to play in the final of the Delta State Principals’ Cup following the boardroom reversal of their semi-final defeat to Otokutu Grammar School. The final, sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc in partnership with Delta State Government, has been scheduled for Thursday, November 6, at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
It had earlier lost 3-0 to Otokutu Grammar School in the semi-final played at Government College, Ughelli, but a protest that Otokutu fielded ineligible players was upheld by the organisers and Urhobo College was reinstated for the championship match.
Under the tutelage of Coach Fred Oteri, the team has been undergoing serious training at Kenwood Hotels and Suites, Effurun, courtesy of alumnus and philanthropist Chief Idama Amurun, sponsor of the Sheriff Oborevwori U-17 Unity Cup. Meanwhile, backed by the alumni association, the players have also engaged in a number of friendly matches in a bid to sharpen their form ahead of the clash.
Urhobo College will now play against Warri South West champions, Ogbeijoh Grammar School, in the final. Delta FA Chairman, Chief Ken Nwanmocha, commended organisers Hideaplus Limited for their firm stance on fair play, describing the disqualification of Otokutu as “a necessary step to preserve the tournament’s integrity.”
“We’re all set for a riveting final, and we invite the Governor to join us to celebrate the future stars of Nigerian football,” Nwanmocha added.
