CNN’s Van Jones has shared what may be one of Charlie Kirk‘s last public gestures – a direct message seeking civil dialogue across the political divide, sent just hours before the conservative activist’s life was cut short.
The message, which Jones revealed publicly, shows a different side of Kirk in his final hours.
Kirk was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, while delivering a speech at Utah Valley University, leaving behind his wife Erika and their two young children.
On September 9, Kirk reached out to Jones on X, extending what would become his final olive branch to someone on the opposite side of the political spectrum.
“Hey, Van, I mean it, I’d love to have you on my show to have a respectful conversation about crime and race.
I would be a gentleman as I know you would be as well. We can disagree about the issues agreeably,” Kirk wrote.
It’s a message that hits differently now – showing a man who, whatever his critics thought of his politics, was still trying to build bridges in his final days.
The timing makes it even more poignant. While Kirk was planning future conversations about finding common ground, someone else was apparently planning violence.
The suspect in Kirk’s killing has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old now being held without bail.
According to reports, Robinson allegedly confessed to the shooting in text messages to his roommate, saying he killed Kirk out of hatred.
Kirk’s death sent shockwaves through the political world, regardless of where people stood on his controversial views.
Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded and led, confirmed his death, asking people to “keep his family and loved ones in your prayers” while respecting their privacy.
