Photos of a Muslim woman, Rodiyah Omotoyosi Mikhail, who was called to the Nigerian bar have been trending, with people talking on all the social media.
Rodiyah, who was officially called to the bar on Wednesday, September 24, donned her ceremonial gown and wig as she donned a niqab that fully covered her face, exposing only her eyes.
A fellow who uploaded the photos on X congratulated her for her triumph, but the pictures soon attracted mixed reactions. While others wondered whether it was legally possible to wear a niqab at the bar ceremony, others were in favor of her doing so as a form of expressing both her professional and religious identity.
Well-wishers and personal friends also came to Rodiyah’s defense, appealing to critics to accord her respect and join her in celebrating her achievement.
