A disturbing video on social media has brought attention to an alleged case of police abuse in Anambra State.
The video, which was uploaded by Nigerian activist Harrison on X (formerly Twitter), shows a police officer attempting to force his way into a man’s home without a search warrant, alleging that the occupant is a cultist. Harrison alleged that the officer extorted ₦1 million from the man after exonerating him from the accusations.
According to Harrison, the officer initially did not identify himself as a member of the Nigeria Police Force and attempted to break in without wearing a uniform or showing an ID card. When the resident began filming, the officer displayed his police ID and could be heard saying: “We’re policemen, you’re a cultist.”
