A video showing a Lagos police officer trying to forcibly take a driver’s camera-equipped glasses has gone viral, sparking public anger about police conduct.
The incident occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation when officers pulled over the driver for inspection.
While the driver was presenting his vehicle documents, one of the officers noticed his smart glasses and immediately tried to confiscate them.
“Why did you put us on camera? You are ‘cameraing’ a police officer? Remove it!” the officer can be heard shouting in the footage.
The driver stood his ground, refusing to surrender his glasses and questioning the officer’s authority to take them.
“Oga, you cannot take my glasses. What have I done wrong? I cannot wear my glasses again?” he responded.
The situation escalated further when the driver claimed he was only allowed to leave after paying ₦200,000 to the officers – an allegation that has added fuel to ongoing concerns about police extortion.
