Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, feared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may fail to host its scheduled national convention in Ibadan this November if outstanding internal matters are left unresolved.
Addressing the media chat in Abuja, Wike clarified that his concerns were not about the venue option but about what had not been solved in the party. “The venue is not the problem. The problem is: have you done what you are supposed to do before calling that convention?” he stated.
Wike made a statement that his team was in a meeting already considering what their next move would be, warning that doing nothing about issues could delay the convention.
Outside party issues, Wike also stated that he believes President Bola Tinubu will be re-elected in 2027, condemning the prediction of his defeat by former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai as incorrect. “I can bet with confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election,” he stated.
He also dismissed speculation about Peter Obi’s possible return to the PDP, calling it “political suicide” for the party. “Bringing Obi back will destroy the party. Ambition can make people even go to Satan’s house,” Wike said.
On former President Goodluck Jonathan’s rumored 2027 ambition, Wike advised against it, urging Jonathan to preserve his international reputation as a respected statesman.
But PDP leaders have dismissed Wike’s threat. Former Deputy National Chairman Chief Olabode George directed him to the court if not contented, while Oyo PDP chairman Dayo Ogungbenro swore that the Ibadan convention would go on undeterred, referring to Wike’s threat as “the fallacy of the year.”.
