Thirty-seven persons who were kidnapped from the Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State have been released by suspected bandits after holding a peace dialogue in the area.
In Katsina state, the member representing the Bakori Constituency in the state house of assembly, Alhaji Abdulrahman Kandarawa, acknowledged the reports to the media on Friday.
He reported that the freed civilians comprise 17 female civilians, two children, and 18 male civilians who all have been released without any payment of ransom. Their release was credited to dialogue efforts geared at ensuring that there is peace between the communities and bandits.
Kandarawa reported that with the release, “no known victim” from the area of Bakori is left in captivity. “At this moment, there are no more victims in the forest from this local government area, except those we may not yet be aware of. I appeal to our people to maintain the relative peace we are currently enjoying,” said Kandarawa.
He hailed the cooperation from the community leaders and security stakeholders, and encouraged the people to be vigilant and support the maintenance of peace in Bakori LGA.
