ABSU VC Urges Gov. Otti to Fulfil Promise of 10,000MW Solar Power Project

Governor Alex Otti

The Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), Professor Ndukwe Okugo, has gently reminded Governor Alex Otti of his promise to provide the university with a 10,000-megawatt solar power installation  a project he said would greatly improve power supply on campus.

Okugo made the appeal while welcoming guests to ABSU’s 80th Inaugural Lecture, delivered by Professor Dick Uduma, a highly respected Political Science scholar. He thanked Governor Otti for the support the school has already received, including the construction of a 5,000-bed hostel and the donation of a transformer, noting that these projects have brought real relief to the university community.

The VC also commended Professor Uduma for his scholarly achievements, describing the inaugural lecture as a moment for the professor to showcase the depth of knowledge that earned him his professorship.

During his lecture titled “Interrogating the Centrality of Machtpolitik in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic,” Professor Uduma reflected on Nigeria’s political journey since 1999. He argued that politics itself is not inherently bad but has been tainted by the behaviour of political actors. He expressed concern that many credible Nigerians are withdrawing from politics, a trend he said worsens governance and harms national development.

Uduma called for a comprehensive restructuring of Nigeria’s federal system to reflect true federalism, strengthen democratic institutions, and build a more united and stable nation.
