Adamawa State Excludes Violent Crime Offenders from Prison Pardon Initiative

Criminals

HiThe Adamawa State Government’s Prerogative of Mercy Committee has announced that inmates convicted of violent crimes, including murder, homicide, robbery, shilla cases, rape, and kidnapping, will not be eligible for pardon under its latest decongestion initiative. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, September 5, 2024, by the Director of Information for the State Judiciary, Sunday Kadiri, on behalf of the Chief Registrar in Yola.

The exercise, carried out by the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee (JDC), aims to address overcrowding in correctional centers across the state. The committee began its activities at Yolde Pate Correctional Centre, focusing on non-violent offenders as part of its regular decongestion efforts.

Kadiri emphasized that the exclusions reflect the government’s commitment to upholding justice for victims of violent crimes while balancing the need for reforms in the correctional system.
