Prince Adewole Adebayo, former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has called on Nigerians to focus more on sports and entertainment as effective means of combating poverty. Speaking at his inaugural Annual Prince Adewole Adebayo Christmas Marathon in Ondo State, Adebayo encouraged young Nigerians to embrace sports as a quick escape from both boredom and poverty. The event attracted athletes from within Nigeria and abroad, including participants from Kenya, with notable attendees such as former ministers Olu Agunloye and Solomon Dalung.
Adebayo highlighted the transformative power of sports, music, and entertainment, stressing that they can elevate individuals from poverty to prominence within a single generation. He expressed his commitment to fostering sports talent in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of discipline in achieving success.
The marathon, which Adebayo intends to make an annual fixture in Nigeria’s sporting calendar, aims to inspire nationwide participation and gain international recognition from the Olympic Committee. He reiterated that such initiatives, requiring no government assistance, are crucial to building a sustainable future for Nigerian youth.
