African Legends Set for Abuja Showdown Against Barça Icons October 25

Jay Jay Okocha

Ex-Super Eagles captain Jay-Jay Okocha, twice African Footballer of the Year Nwankwo Kanu, 2008 title winner Emmanuel Adebayor, and Arsenal legend Alex Song will captain the African Legends squad in a sparkling clash with Barça Legends on October 25 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The Attom Foundation-hosted Champions Cup will kick off at 3 p.m., with some of Africa’s finest footballers locking horns with Barcelona’s finest stars in a charity game that is dedicated to empowering the girl child.

Okocha, with his flair and dazzling dribbles, enjoyed a celebrity career throughout Europe, being crowned the BBC African Footballer of the Year twice and playing the lead in Nigeria’s 1994 AFCON victory and 1996 Olympic gold. Kanu, perhaps Africa’s most decorated athlete, boasts a UEFA Champions League medal with Ajax, two Premier League crowns with Arsenal, and numerous FA Cups alongside his two CAF Footballer of the Year awards.

They will be joined by Adebayor, the 2008 African Player of the Year, and Song, the former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder. The duo forms a formidable African team with solid bases in the European top leagues.

Barça Legends will feature global icons such as Ronaldinho, Ludovic Giuly, Javier Saviola, Jesús Angoy, Samuel Okunowo, Marc Valiente, Fernando Navarro, and Roberto Trashorras.

Apart from football, the fans also look forward to a meet-and-greet session with the celebrities and a gala night of fine dining, networking, and philanthropy with the funds raised going towards girl child programs.
