With mounting concern over insecurity and the suspected appearance of a notorious fugitive in Saki, in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, the Agbekoya Farmers Society of Nigeria has sent hundreds of its own members into vulnerable villages to lend a hand in fighting banditry, kidnapping, and other types of violent crime.

In a statement released on Sunday, following its meeting, which was signed by the national public relations officer of Agbekoya, the group’s leader in Oyo State, and its national public relations secretary, Deacon Olatunji Bandele, and its Oyo State leader, Agbekoya lamented the increasing insecurity in the country. The group was saddened by the recent attacks in Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, as well as Borno. There was increased tension Agbekoya was alerted by the coming of the Suspected ago.

However, in order to forestall any further unrest, the group explained that trained security personnel had been deployed in identified flashpoint communities in the state. This would work in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, as explained in the statement:

Agbekoya equally appealed to the southwestern governors to heighten their security measures, as their citizens are increasingly worried.

“The dissolution of our security architecture has left our villages, communities, as well as schools, susceptible to assault from suspected bandits and herdsmen militia, as declared in the communique. “Within the last few weeks, disturbing instances of mass kidnappings and deaths have been witnessed in the country. At this point in time, proactive leadership as well as enhanced collaboration between the government and the public are imperative. At Farmers’ Organization, as a grassroots farmers’ body, we are prepared to work hand in hand with the security agencies in Oyo State.”
