The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, has dissolved a committee allegedly formed by certain individuals for his forthcoming coronation, stating that it was established without his approval. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Oba Owoade made it clear that any further meetings or activities by the disbanded committee would be deemed illegal and would not be tolerated. He emphasized that any committee or event related to his coronation must first receive official approval from the Oyo palace.
Titled “Coronation Committee Setup in Oyo Town – Notice of Cease & Desist,” the statement read: “Let it be known to all that any committee or activity initiated without the express consent and approval of His Imperial Majesty and his office shall be considered unauthorized and will not be allowed to continue.”
The monarch further dissociated himself from the unapproved committee, warning the public and its organizers that no official endorsement had been given for their activities. He also ordered an immediate halt to all meetings on the subject. Regarding fundraising for the coronation, Oba Owoade asserted that such initiatives would be at the sole discretion of the royal family, which would determine the composition of any official committee if necessary.
While appreciating the efforts of those involved, he assured that they would be informed should their contributions be required as preparations unfold. The monarch concluded by mandating that all plans or activities related to his coronation must first be cleared by his office before being made public.
