The Anambra State Government has fired eight members of its Agunechemba Security outfit following their brutal assault on NYSC corps member Jennifer Elobor.
According to Gistlover, Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, announced the dismissals at the agency’s headquarters in Awka.
He condemned the incident, which occurred when the operatives were pursuing suspected cultists on Tuesday.
“The officers were pursuing suspected cultists on Tuesday when they attacked the corps member—an action totally outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable,” Emeakayi said.
The security operatives had publicly stripped and assaulted Elobor during the incident.
Emeakayi made it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated, stating that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face immediate dismissal and prosecution.
The state government has taken full responsibility for the victim’s welfare.
Elobor’s medical expenses have been covered, her damaged belongings replaced, and an official apology issued to her, her family, and the National Youth Service Corps.
Emeakayi indicated that the government would use this incident to improve its security operations moving forward.
