APC Gives Rivers Governor 48-Hour Ultimatum to Resign or Face Impeachment

Governor Fubara

Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) called on Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara to resign office in 48 hours or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly. State APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, issued the warning on Monday in a press release at his Port Harcourt home. Fubara attracted the ire of President Bola Tinubu, particularly in the president’s bid to snuff out the ongoing political crisis in the state.

“As a party, we are saying to the governor: either resign with honor or face impeachment. That is where the APC is standing. He has disobeyed Mr. President, and we cannot sit and watch him do so, Okocha stated.

He added that the Supreme Court had brought up fresh evidence against Fubara, making investigation by the House of Assembly unnecessary.

“The offenses are glaring, and the Supreme Court has already vindicated our position. The House of Assembly has no business constituting any other investigation committee. Indeed, 48 hours is too generous he should resign forthwith,” accused the APC chairman.

The Rivers State political crisis has grown, with the latest impasse between Governor Fubara and the major political players, like former Governor Nyesom Wike. This ultimatum, which was given recently by the APC, heightens the crisis in the political history of the state.
