Asaba 2025 National Youth Games Set for Colourful Opening Ceremony

Delta state governor

Organising Committee for the Asaba 2025 National Youth Games (NYG) Local Organising Committee (LOC) has rolled out plans for a colourful opening ceremony with top Nigerian music artistes and traditional dancers to entertain athletes and spectators at the Stephen Keshi Stadium this week.

The 9th National Youth Games will be declared open by the National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

Delta State is hosting the NYG for the third year running, following Kwara State, which hosted the event five times. This year’s Games will be held from August 26 to September 6 in Asaba.

While the number of athletes and officials who will attend this year has not been clearly stated, LOC member Festus Ohwojero intimated that turnout is set to exceed the last one.

“We are postponing the Delegation Registration Meeting (DRM) to watch the number, but so far, more states are signing up this year, which is an indication of rising awareness of the need to deepen the foundation for youth sports,” Ohwojero asserted.

He assured that all the logistics from accommodation and catering to transport and venue readiness have been finalized, according to directives by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to take to the Games a befitting Games.

Whereas Team Delta will put up its official contingent later in the weekend, well over 600 sportsmen and women have already camped in facilities in Asaba. The state is set to maintain its dominance at the youth sports fiesta.
