Veteran actress Bimbo Akintola believes Nollywood has changed dramatically since her early career days, and not necessarily for the better.
In a recent interview, Akintola reflected on how the industry once operated on pure passion rather than commercial interests.
She remembered working long hours, sometimes through the night, without concern for food or payment because actors genuinely loved storytelling.
“We would spend long hours — sometimes working overnight — without worrying about food or pay, simply because we loved bringing stories to life,” she said.
Akintola praised industry veterans like Joke Silva and Shola Sobowale, noting they prioritized their craft over personal comfort during those early years.
However, she’s troubled by what she sees as today’s shift in priorities. “Now, it’s about makeup, clothes, even BBLs. The passion is gone… it’s now about looks, not content,” Akintola observed.
The actress warned that while physical beauty is temporary, genuine artistry has lasting value.
