Veteran actress Bukky Wright has shared her mixed feelings about the current state of the Nigerian film industry, citing a decline in professionalism compared to earlier years.
Speaking in a recent interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Wright expressed pride in Nollywood’s growth but lamented the industry’s slipping standards. She pointed out issues such as actors arriving late to set, despite agreed-upon call times, and the lack of structured training academies that once provided aspiring actors with well-rounded education in filmmaking.
Reflecting on the past, Wright emphasized the importance of self-improvement and dedication, acknowledging that while some newcomers are eager to enhance their skills, others seem complacent.
“I’m back, and I’m proud of the industry I’m meeting? Yes, but also no. Professionalism isn’t what it used to be. Call time is 8 o’clock, and some people stroll in by 12 because they’re ‘superstars,’ and maybe we’re not,” she remarked.
Despite these concerns, she praised actors who are committed to refining their craft and encouraged greater discipline within the industry.
