Calls for Investigation into Allegations of USAID’s Terrorism Funding in Nigeria

Terrorist

The federal government has been urged to thoroughly investigate claims that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is financing terrorism in Nigeria.  Renowned legal practitioner and former Ekiti State Attorney General, Owoseni Ajayi, emphasized that a pr ofoper probe is necessary to uncover those fueling terrorism and banditry. His remarks follow allegations made by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry, who claimed that USAID is supporting Boko Haram.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti, Ajayi warned that such allegations could negatively impact foreign aid and assistance to Nigeria. He commended Senator Ali Ndume for raising the issue in the Senate, leading to the summoning of security and intelligence chiefs to address the matter. Ajayi stressed the importance of a detailed investigation, urging the National Security Adviser (NSA) to establish a committee to examine the claims. He also cited concerns that some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) may be diverting funds meant for humanitarian aid to support criminal activities.

“How are terrorists acquiring weapons more sophisticated than those of our security forces? Who is funding them, and how do they sustain their operations, including paying recruits?” he questioned. He reiterated the need for urgent action to uncover the financial and logistical networks enabling terrorism in Nigeria.
