Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is singing the praises of Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, and it’s got everyone talking!
On Channels Television’s, Amazing Africans, the celebrated writer shared her heartfelt admiration for Obi, emphasizing that his drive to lead Nigeria comes from a deep love for the country, not a chase for fame or power.
“He doesn’t need to be president,” Chimamanda said with conviction. “He wants to be because he truly cares about Nigeria.
That’s what sets him apart from those who are just desperate for the title to stroke their egos.”
Having known Obi for over 15 years, Chimamanda gushed about his unwavering character.
“The guy I met back then is still the same today—his values haven’t budged,” she shared. “He’s genuine, consistent, and so curious, which I think is exactly what a great leader needs.”
She also highlighted his approach to leadership, noting that Obi sees it as a calling to serve, not a chance to show off.
“He’s not out here expecting a pat on the back for doing his job,” she added. “For him, it’s about service, not ruling over people.”
When the conversation turned to whether Obi might snag the Labour Party’s ticket for 2027, Chimamanda kept it cool, saying, “I’m not ready to play the guessing game just yet. We don’t know what the future holds, so let’s not jinx it!”
