A condemned inmate, Abba Hassan, escaped from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum, Yobe State, early on Friday, October 31, 2025.
The Yobe State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday; he identified the fugitive as a native of Maiduguri, Borno State.
He called on residents, transport operators, community leaders, vigilante groups, and security agencies in Yobe and neigbouring states to be vigilant and report promptly any information that could lead to the re-arrest of Hassan.
Abdulkarim, while urging people not to confront or try to re-arrest the escapee, said any sighting should be reported to the nearest police station, correctional facility, or via the emergency number 08038452982.
He also appealed for maximum public cooperation to ensure the swift re-arrest of the fugitive and the continued safety of the community.
