Court Sentences 28-Year-Old Man to 5 Years Imprisonment for Sexual Exploitation in Borno

In a powerful ruling, a High Court in Maiduguri, Borno State, has sentenced 28-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim to five years behind bars for sexual exploitation.

The verdict, handed down by Hon. Justice Aisha Ndume on Monday, August 4, 2025, came after Ibrahim was found guilty of procuring someone for sexual exploitation, a serious crime under Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

The case began when the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) brought charges against Ibrahim on November 21, 2024.

After a thorough trial, the court not only sentenced him to prison but also ordered him to pay a ₦1 million fine, sending a strong message about the consequences of such actions.

This ruling is a reminder of the ongoing fight against human trafficking and exploitation, with authorities working to protect vulnerable people and hold offenders accountable.
