Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been officially inducted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the global body that hosts the prestigious Grammy Awards.

The membership gives Davido, who was nominated for three Grammys at the 2024 ceremony, an active role in voting on the nomination and final ballot for the 2026 ceremony.

The news was confirmed by the Recording Academy on Tuesday in an Instagram video that included Davido and other new members. The caption read:

“It takes heart, time, and commitment to create a song or an album. That’s why Recording Academy members like #Davido, #ravynlenae, #offsetyrn, #jessiereyez, #zacbrownband, #anneakikomeyers, #miles.minnick, #mayaelizabethmusic, #damiensneed, #damarismusica, and #stewart_copeland are celebrating why your membership makes a difference.”

In response to the accomplishment, Davido labeled the induction as a privilege and a platform to deliver immense contributions towards global recognition of music.

“Understanding the worth of the way we are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. It’s a leveler. I have come to realize that voting empowers one to speak on what is given consideration and voted upon in every season. I’m honored to be part of the Recording Academy membership, and I’m looking forward to voting,” he concluded.

The ceremony highlights the Academy’s continued initiative to expand and diversify its membership, notably inducting additional African and international artists.

In other news, the Academy recently opened voting on the 2026 GRAMMY Awards on October 3, inviting members to “study the ballot, listen, and vote early.”
