Violence erupted in Igbogene community of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, when armed cultists launched a deadly attack on Wednesday evening, leaving three people dead and residents fleeing for safety. The incident, which occurred around 8 PM, saw about 10 armed cultists storm the community in what appears to be an escalation of rivalry between local cult groups.
Among the first casualties was the son of a former vigilante leader known as ‘Money Sweet,’ who was gunned down near his residence. Another victim was reportedly shot after failing to reveal his elder brother’s whereabouts. ASP Musa Mohammed, the State Police Command spokesperson, identified the victims as Donaldson Mison, 28, Addy Mulan, 27, and Greenboy Dudella, 29.
However, community sources, including Youth President Ezekiel Igbenivie, claim only two deaths occurred, with a third victim receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility in Yenagoa. The attack has raised questions about possible connections to the recently relocated inter-state motor parks in the area, though no clear link has been established.
The community’s Youth President confirmed that the suspected perpetrators have fled the area. The violence has cast a shadow over Igbogene, where both residents and indigenes are involved in the rival cult groups. Police authorities have launched an investigation to apprehend the suspects involved in this deadly clash, which has left the community on edge.
