The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has commenced a new phase of environmental sanitation in the major areas of the state capital territory, reiterating its commitment to environmental sustainability and public hygiene.
During the exercise, the Director-General of the agency, Chief Patrick Ukah, issued a stern warning to residents of the area, stating that any individual caught violating sanitation regulations or obstructing the activities of the agency would be taken to a mobile court with immediate effect.
The sanitation exercise, Ukah explained, is part of a broader move to enforce the environmental laws, rid the capital territory of illegal structures, and boost the hygiene levels. “The exercise is aimed at evacuating piled-up refuse, removing blockages, and demolishing unauthorized structures that lead to environmental degradation,” he said.
Leading the public sensitization campaign, Ms. Ngozi Peter and her team engaged residents and shop owners in some of the communities. They preached the necessity of a clean environment and advocated for compliance with waste disposal processes, including registration under the Private Sector Participation (PSP) program.
The Environmental Sanitation Unit, under the leadership of Mr. Isaac Nwosu and assisted by the Field Marshal of the agency, carried out an intensive drain and road setback cleaning along major locations.
The sanitation exercise commenced from the State Secretariat and extended to Macdon, Akpu Junction, NTA Road, Anwai Road, Inter Beau Roundabout, and Camp 74. The exercise witnessed massive turnout from agency staff, sanitation workers, and community outreach groups, signaling a collective effort in achieving a cleaner and healthier capital territory.
