A Delta State resident says his local government chairman threatened to kill him after he criticized the poor condition of a major road in his community.
The man posted a video over the weekend complaining about the road’s terrible state and questioning why repairs hadn’t been made despite local governments now having more funding and autonomy.
“What is he doing? What is he using the Federal Government allocation for? The incumbent local government chairman is the most financially buoyant we’ve ever had.
If he uses just 0.01% of the allocation to tar this road, it would be fixed. He is incompetent!
He is not capable! He should step aside for someone who is,” he said in the video that quickly went viral.
Soon after, he posted another video claiming the chairman had threatened his life because of his criticism.
The allegation has started discussions on social media about whether citizens should be free to criticize their leaders without fear, and whether public officials should be held accountable for their actions.
