A socio-political pressure group, the Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID), has taken a hard stance against Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi of Ebonyi North over his conduct in the wake of the saga between suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by its President, Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu, the group described Nwebonyi’s defense of Akpabio and attacks on prominent Nigerians, including Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, as “un-parliamentary, unwholesome, and unbecoming of a legislator.”
The group claimed the senator had embarrassed the people of Ebonyi State with his behavior and comments, which it said were a result of his misunderstanding of his role as a legislator. “He was elected to make laws and deliver democratic dividends, not to act as an attack dog for Senate leadership,” the statement read.
AEISCID also charged Nwebonyi with having deserted his legislative responsibilities to become a political errand-boy, stating that his recent outings in the media were not just embarrassing but unbecoming of the office he holds.
