Edo Governor Okpebholo Promises Justice, Compensation to Family of Assassinated Hunters

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has promised the relatives of the 16 hunters mercilessly killed in Uromi maximum compensation, assuring that culprits will be brought to justice.

On a condolence visit to Torankawa village in Bunkure Local Government Area, Okpebholo—who was accompanied by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other high-ranking government officials—promised the mourning families financial aid and foodstuff for sustenance.

Indignant with the killings, Okpebholo vowed the relatives of the victims justice would be served.

“We shall ensure that perpetrators of this satanic act face book,” he declared.

A week after the tragedy, hundreds of relatives and sympathizers trooped the Torankawa streets in a procession of peace protest, demanding justice for the butchered hunters.

With placards inscribed with slogans such as “We demand justice for the killings of our people” and “Hunters are not criminals,” protesters marched along the village.

Some, who appeared visibly upset, sang war songs and waved weapons, but residents of the village ensured that peace was maintained.
