The Enugu State Security Trust Fund (ESSTF) has received over N3 billion in donations from individuals and corporate bodies during a fundraising dinner at the Old Government Lodge, Enugu. The event aimed to bolster security initiatives in the state. Dr. Ike Chioke, Chairman of the ESSTF Board of Trustees and Group Managing Director of Afrinvest West Africa Ltd., praised Governor Peter Mbah’s administration for its commitment to security. Chioke stressed that security is a collective responsibility and set a target of N20 billion for the fund. He projected that if 2 million working adults contributed N1,000 monthly, citizens alone could raise N24 billion annually.
Governor Mbah highlighted the state’s security progress since his administration began, recalling how criminals previously terrorized the region. “In 20 months, we’ve reclaimed our streets, and citizens now live without fear,” he stated. Mbah detailed significant investments in security infrastructure, including the Enugu State Command and Control Centre, which was commissioned by the President in January. He also noted the deployment of AI-equipped security vehicles and the formation of a Distress Response Squad to tackle threats swiftly.
Business mogul Prince Arthur Ezeh commended Governor Mbah’s achievements, comparing him to revered leaders such as Sam Mbakwe and M.I. Okpara. Ezeh praised Mbah’s rapid transformation of the state, calling his leadership a source of pride for the Igbo community. The fundraising success and ongoing initiatives signal Enugu State’s commitment to sustained security and economic growth.
