Ex-Lawmaker Slams FG Over KWAM 1 Airport Protocol Ambassador Role, Warns of ‘Dangerous Precedent’

One-time member of the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has criticized the Federal Government’s naming of Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, alias KWAM 1, as an airport security protocol ambassador, arguing that the move could encourage unruly behavior for the sake of public recognition.

Commenting on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Bagos believed the action would spur others to make public scenes to get the same appointments. “With all the drama, now he is an ambassador… the perception of Nigerians is that it is entirely wrong,” he stated.

He also condemned the alleged consideration of Comfort Emmanson Ibom Air’s passenger who was recently involved in a fight with crew and security personnel for the same position, on the basis that it would normalize disruptive behaviour on board airplanes.

Bagos feared that the symbolic appointments could be extended to criminal record holders, a move that would undermine public trust. He called on the government to give precedence to passenger sensitisation and reform of airport security procedures, particularly screening.

KWAM 1’s appointment was announced by the Federal Government just a few days after his controversial conduct at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, 2025. The appointment has sparked public outcry, especially in light of similarities with the Emmanson incident, where charges and a no-fly ban were later dropped after public outcry was raised.
