A man who spent almost a decade pretending to be a lawyer has finally been caught and arrested by police in Ogun State.
Emmanuel Odeh managed to fool clients and courts for close to 10 years, practicing law in both Lagos and Abuja before authorities discovered his elaborate deception.
His run came to an end on Thursday, August 28, when he was arrested while representing a client in an Abeokuta courtroom.
The X-Squad Section officers, working under ACP Akinloye Oyegade, made the arrest after investigations exposed Odeh’s fake credentials.
He had been operating under the professional name “A O Emmanuel, Legal Practitioner and Public Consultant,” according to police spokesperson Ade Ogunyemi.
Assistant Inspector General Emuobo Ekokotu used the incident as a warning to Nigerians, advising them to always check a lawyer’s credentials before hiring them.
He pointed out that falling victim to such imposters can result in lost money, terrible legal representation, ruined cases, and damaged reputations.
“This should send a clear message to anyone thinking about pulling similar scams,” Ekokotu said.
“No matter how long you think you can get away with it, we will eventually catch you.”
Odeh now faces court charges once police finish their investigation into his decade-long fraud.
